Ultra high-density 1.6 inch thick solid EPS hive top for maximum insulation, reduces heat loss in winter, and heat gain in summer. High impact and UV resistant plastic edge protects the hive top against hive tool damage and pests such as wax moths and ants from gaining access at the top. Pressed metal cover protects the EPS hive top from damage from strapping the hive together* and from hail damage.
*We recommend using some type of ratcheting tie down strap to keep the hive boxes tightly together when not working the hive...this enables the condensing features of the hive to work at their fullest capacity, creating the "tree cavity" environment inside the hive that allows the bees to better maintain temperature and keep moisture away from the cluster.
