We are happy to provide honey extraction services for our fellow beekeepers.
We have a fully furnished honey kitchen with state of the art equipment. Our kitchen is cleaned and re-set daily for each new extraction service. We will first run your frames through our Dakota Gunness chain uncapper. Our uncapper is finely adjusted to just open the wax cells without removing much wax at all. Once your frames are uncapped, they are placed in one of our Dadant motorized extractors which will spin the honey out of your frames.
Once completed, we tilt the extractor up, open the honey gate and allow your honey to pour through two strainers into your 5 gallon, food grade bucket. The strainer will remove bee parts and wax pieces, while still letting the essential pollen pieces pass through with your honey. We will not apply any heat during the extraction process.
Becoming a beekeeper is an exciting and rewarding endeavor. However, when you are just getting started, everything you need to learn can seem overwhelming. We are here to help and are available to work with you and your bees. We can help with basics such as proper use of your hive tools and equipment as well as how to conduct inspections. We can also help address specific problems such as dealing with an aggressive hive, assisting with diagnosing pest and disease issues, to evaluating the overall health of your hive. We can also walk you through more advanced techniques such as making a split, and marking or replacing a queen. We want you to feel comfortable when working with your bees and will be happy to work with you to answer all questions as well as give advice on treatment or management decisions. Consultations are $50 per hour plus mileage to and from the store within the Colorado Springs Area. Areas outside of Colorado Springs will be assessed on a case by case basis and may be subject to extra fees for time and mileage. Leonard & Dolly Rickerman are currently the only authorized beekeepers booking consults on behalf of Rocky Mountain Bee Supply--we have no other authorized beekeepers doing consults for us at this time. To book a consultation visit with us, please call the store at 719-375-5094.
Beekeeping on the Front Range requires a mix of art and science. Beekeepers are life-long learners that continuously refine their craft and hone their skills. We offer a wide range of classes to support the novice to advanced beekeeper. All of our classes are currently offered in recorded format. When we are able, we will resume in-person, hands -on training. When we resume, our class schedule will coincide with the bee season as it progresses. We will offer our basic 6hr “brass tacks” course in late Fall through to early Spring. Throughout the summer we will provide more advanced
classes that include pest management with an emphasis on the varroa destructor mite, hive management classes to include hive splitting, queen rearing, and how to make money in beekeeping. We will also provide seasonal classes such as overwintering, and honey harvesting. Our classes are designed to equip you with the concepts, knowledge, and best management practices needed to successfully keep honeybees.
Swarm removal, trap outs, cut outs...we will remove honeybees for you as long as they haven't been sprayed with insecticide. We will re-home them. Please call us first before you call pest control. (719)375-5094 or send us an email.
We partner with several large-scale farms, orchards, and ranches throughout the State of Colorado. We maintain a high quality of standards in our bees and beehives. All our beehives have a working queen, plenty of brood, strong frame count, and are provided as double-deep
hives. We can greatly enhance the pollination of your field or orchard. Contact us to discuss partnering opportunities.
