Rocky Mountain Bee Supply's Winter Sugar Brick is a dry supplemental winter feed that can be placed on overwintering hives as an extra resource for both thriving colonies and colonies that are going into winter with light honey stores.
Why dry feed in winter? Dry feeding in winter reduces the moisture in the hive and reduces issues that condensation causes. Bees in cluster during the cold temperatures create heat and moisture...but too much moisture can cause the cluster to get wet, which can cause the colony to die. This is why beekeepers avoid feeding liquid feed inside the hive during the winter. Supplying our Winter Sugar Brick allows the bees to avoid starvation and have access to food all winter long when their winter honey stores have been consumed too early, especially in climates with longer winters or at elevation.
