Medication: Api-Bioxal RTU

Api-Bioxal RTU has been approved by the EPA by all states except: Alaska, Hawaii, and California. 

Looking for an easier alternative to vaporizing oxalic acid or mixing your own dribble with sugar syrup? Api-Bioxal RTU “Ready-to-use” removes the math and mixing, leaving you to just treat your hives. RTU is a better version of oxalic acid dribble created without a sugar syrup base, meaning the oxalic acid will stay active in hives longer. This shelf-stable formula can be stored at room temperature for at least 1 year, even after the bottle has been opened. This is because the formula contains no sugar, which can form toxic byproducts during storage and also tempts the bees to eat the treatment.

When to use: Best when colonies are broodless, but also allowed to repeatedly apply to colonies with brood, similar to repeated oxalic acid vaporization treatments.

How apply: While wearing appropriate PPE, measure 5mL of ready-mixed solution, and then dribble directly onto the bees by squirting it between the top bars in each box. Only apply to seams between frames that are occupied by bees. A single application treats broodless overwintering colonies, swarms, packages, and other broodless colonies. Repeated applications permitted when brood is present, 7-10 days apart, up to 4 applications.

Designed for use with Api-Bioxal RTU solution, Dosa-Laif drench bottle makes measuring and treating with oxalic acid solution easy! Multiple beekeepers who used it said (without hearing the other) that it was “a pleasure to use!”

Can also be used to measure and dribble homemade sugar syrup oxalic acid solutions.

How to use: You can hold the bottle upright and squeeze to move the solution up into the top chamber, then simply tilt (without squeezing) to dribble fluid out of the bottle’s tip. We find it easy to measure multiple doses at a time, and then to monitor the flow rate to dispense the legal dose of 5mL per seam of bees. (That is, the spaces between your frames that are occupied by bees.)
