Are you looking for concise, yet informative beginner beekeeping class in a relaxed learning environment?  Look no further...we got you!  Our Brass Tacks Beginner Beekeeping Class is designed for the new beekeeper in Colorado. We set you up for success by getting you the most critical beekeeping practices and techniques for your first year and beyond. We've been teaching beekeeping on the Front Range since 2016 and beekeeping here even longer--let us help you on your journey into the fascinating world of beekeeping.

This in-person class takes place over two days of instruction.  It is designed to get you through your first year of beekeeping here in Colorado.  The first half of the class (Session A) will be taught on a Saturday, from 3 pm to 8 pm. The second half (Session B) will be on Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm. 

Session A: Saturday Class, 3 pm--8 pm: Introduction, Equipment, Sourcing Bees, Installation, & Feeding, Q & A Session

Session B: Sunday Class, 1 pm--6 pm: Basic Bee Biology, Hive Inspections, Pest Management, Trouble Shooting, & Winterizing, Q & A Session

We will have periodic breaks every hour.

Designed for the beginner, this is an overview of basic bee biology, equipment, installing your bees into your hive, feeding, hive inspections, predators, pests/diseases, winterizing, etc.  Rocky Mountain Bee Supply focuses our instruction on best beekeeping practices for the state of Colorado and its varied microclimates.  This course is designed to give you all of the must-know practices and techniques to help you grow into a successful beekeeper.  

What you need to bring to class:

  • Camp Chair--we do NOT have chairs available for students.  Please do not forget to bring a camp chair to sit in for the class!
  • Pen/Pencils to take notes
  • Water/Snacks (Coffee will be provided)

CLASS NOTES* WILL BE EMAILED TO YOU BEFORE THE CLASS...YOU WILL NEED TO PRINT THEM OUT AND BRING THEM WITH YOU...WE CANNOT PRINT THEM FOR YOU HERE.

Parking: There will be limited parking in our lot; please park in the empty lot next to the Western Omelette Diner across the alleyway. DO NOT PARK IN THE 64 STORE LOT...THEY WILL TOW YOU.

Refund Policy: Cancellations will be given a refund minus a 3.5% credit card fee.

Switching Classes:  Must have instructor approval to switch dates.  Class sizes are limited. If you need to switch to a different date, please contact Dolly at 719-375-5094.

Beekeepers Bio:

Leonard and Dolly Rickerman have been keeping bees on the Front Range for well over a decade.  A family business, we have several commercial bee yards that we run for honey production, pollination services, nuc production, and queen rearing.  This class is designed to give beginners an intense overview of beekeeping here in Colorado so that they may grow to be successful beekeepers.  Rocky Mountain Bee Supply is dedicated to the success of hobbyist beekeepers and the passion for beekeeping by teaching best beekeeping practices.  Our learning never stops.
